Chapter 4

After a half and hour on the phone with Oz, he had Elisabeth Summers phone number and address. But he still didn’t know much else about her. At least nothing that could truly convince him that the petite blond wasn’t lying about the pregnancy. He knew better than just asking if the young woman was known for lying or being deceitful at all. She was Willows friend. And Willow hung the moon for Oz. Realizing this, Spike wasn’t about to accuse Buffy of lying about a baby. A Baby.

‘I might be a father.’ A shudder ran through Spike. ‘Is it fear, excitement, or regret?’ He had never thought about a baby with Drusilla. She wasn’t much of the mothering type.

‘Nope, no babies with Dru. Never allowed near without a raincoat.’ He chucked thinking about a time during his Senior year at UCLA when the two had spent hours kissing and caressing on his dorm room bed only to fight out his roommate had taken the last condom out of his drawer. Dru had just gotten up and left. Not that Spike minded too much. It was her body. She could and would often turn him down at any moment. He only minded as much as any college boy would have. Until Spike found out the last few months of their relationship she had been leaving his bed for Angel Connors.

Spike glanced over to the clock on his nightstand. 3 a.m. Hours of turning the situation over in his head had gotten him nowhere. Anger, frustration, guilt, happiness, shame, it was too much for him. He needed to see her. ‘After a few hours of sleep.’

Spike leaned back on the bed closing his eyes. ‘Could I have a baby with Buffy Summers? Would she be a good mother?’ A picture of Buffy holding a baby girl with wide green eyes and soft blonde hair brought a smile to Spikes face. ‘A baby.’ The thought circled in Spikes mind as sleep finally overcame the tired man.

Spike opened his eyes after what seemed only minutes. Five hours had passed, but his body tried refusing to move. His mind however was buzzing with action. Find her. Talk to her. Figure this out.

After Spike was showered and dressed, he grabbed the slip with her address and headed out. Her house was easy to find. In an attempt to give himself more time to prepare, Spike parked his 1957 black Bel Air a few houses down.’Ok mate time to go.’ He didn’t move, instead opting for a smoke to lessen his nerves. Watching the two-story house Spike’s one cigarette to ‘calm his nerves’ turned into a half a pack.

He leaned over to grab the lighter off the seat next to him. After lighting his next smoke, Spike saw a man heading for his car. Preparing to explain why he was just sitting in a car outside a house he had never been to before, Spike began to get out of the car.

The man stopped a few feet away as Spike shut the door. “You.” The man said. “I could kill you!”

Spike didn’t see the fist, which shot him square in the face.

“Bloody hell! What was that for!” Spike shouted as he clutched his nose. As the man pulled back his arm again they heard a woman scream.

“Xander! STOP!”

Spike leaned over spiting out the blood that had run down the back of his throat into his mouth.

“What the fuck are you doing!” He looked up to see Buffy Summers as she put her body in between Xander and Spike. Her hands were on her hips as she stared her brother down. “Go inside”

“No way..”

“GO NOW! Before I make sure you look just as bad as he does!”

Mumbling under his breath Xander went back inside.

“I am so sorry.” She moved to Spike helping him sit down. “Xander has his moments but I can’t remember him ever hitting anyone before.”

“Well, for a beginner he got a great punch in. I didn’t even see it coming.” Spike chuckled nervously hoping to relieve the tension. “Is that the brother?”

“Yeah, he is little over protective at times. Are you OK, do I need to take you to the hospital?”

She asked as she turned his face up towards hers.

“Nah, Can I have a towel or something?”

“Oh god, just a sec. I’ll be right back.” He closed his eyes as he heard her run back to her house.

Buffy ran back inside and quickly ran upstairs to the bathroom she and Xander shared. Grabbing a light blue towel from the rack she she turned and smacked into Xander.

“I am so mad at you right now that I… I don’t think I even want to see you or even hear your voice.” Buffy couldn’t look at him focusing on the doorframe.

“Sweetie I am sorry. I just saw him and… I just reacted. I hit him. It happened I just was so… I am sorry.” Xander leaned forward and touched her arm. “I love you so much. I don’t ever want to see you hurt. And that jerk hurt you. Xander moved her into his arms. “I am sorry. I can’t stand to see you in any pain.”

Buffy pulled back and looked into her older brother’s eyes.

“Xan, I tried to tell you before. He never hurt me. As first times go it was pretty special.” She separated her body from his and headed down to the kitchen. “I dont regret sleeping with him.” Buffy began making an ice pack slowly as she searched for the words to explain why she gave her virginity to William Giles, without giving to many details. “He made it nice, and special. I know you think it was a bad man praying on an innocent girl, because you still think of me as a little girl but,” Buffy put down the newly made ice pack and glance up at Xander. “But as far as first times go it was good. A good memory, not awkward or scary, just good.” She grabbed the towel and headed back outside, leaving her brother looking baffled.
