He was sleeping through the night, and Buffy and Spike had a good balance of working, spending time as a family, and assisting the Louisiana Slayer team at the slippery New Orleans hellmouth. Then, Buffy gets tapped to help investigate a bunch of dead bodies with neck wounds in the Quarter, and Spike is left to watch their son on his own. He’s done it plenty of times before.
